Volunteers cook and serve breakfast for our residents Monday – Friday. Volunteers arrive at 6 am, serve at 7 am, and are out by 7:30 am. The food, menus, recipes and supplies are all provided. You don’t even have to clean-up, the residents do that. We especially need help on Thursdays. On average, we feed 50-55 people each morning. We use disposable plates, cups, napkins, bowls, forks, knives, and spoons, which are donated by individuals, businesses, and churches.
We currently have over 43 churches and individuals who provide, prepare, and serve dinner each night and breakfast on the weekend.

If you or your organization would like to provide bag lunches for our residents as they leave for the day, it would be greatly appreciated.
It will help the children in the shelter to take a nutritious lunch to school and the adults to take a lunch to work. These lunches ensure our residents have a mid-day meal, as they often do not get to eat lunch during the day.
We invite compassionate volunteers to help support children and families at our local homeless shelter. Volunteers play an important role in creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for children during their stay at the shelter.
Opportunities include leading arts and crafts, helping with tutoring and homework, and organizing fun, child-centered enrichment activities that encourage creativity, learning, and connection. Your presence helps provide stability and positive engagement for children during an important time for their families.
We are seeking volunteers who can offer consistent support. We request a commitment of at least 2 hours once a month to a maximum 2 hours once a week. The schedule can be tailored to your convenience, but will likely be one morning a week or Saturday morning, or Sunday afternoon. Individuals, community groups, and organizations are all welcome to serve. Please fill out a volunteer application and drop it by the office or you can email it to Kimberly Pontarelli at kpontarelli@greenvillecommunityshelter.org. She will turn them in to Julie who will contact you about a meeting and orientation for this program.
